Worcester Bosch boiler repair across Bristol from a Gas Safe registered engineer with over forty years on the tools. Honest diagnosis, fair pricing, heating back on.
Almost all of Julian's work comes from repeat customers and recommendations. Over forty years, that is the only measure that means anything.
When a boiler stops, the house gets cold fast and the hot water goes with it. Julian repairs Worcester Bosch boilers across Bristol, finds the actual fault rather than guessing, and tells you honestly whether it is worth fixing.
He has worked on gas boilers in Bristol homes for over forty years and is Gas Safe registered, reg. 198984. As a Worcester accredited installer he knows the Greenstar range inside out, which means faults get identified quickly and the right part goes in first time.
Julian works on Worcester Bosch boilers only for repairs. It is a deliberate choice. Knowing one manufacturer properly beats knowing eight badly, and it is why repeat customers keep calling him back rather than taking a chance on whoever answers first.
Please note that Julian does not offer emergency or out-of-hours callouts. He works normal hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday mornings, and will always give you a straight answer on when he can get to you.
Fault codes read, components tested, and the real cause found rather than guessed at.
You hear what is wrong and what it costs before anything is taken apart.
Genuine parts fitted, boiler tested, and the job left clean and tidy.

Most boiler breakdowns in Bristol homes come down to a handful of causes, and a lot of them are cheaper to fix than people expect.
Low pressure is the most common call. The gauge drops below one bar and the boiler locks out. Sometimes it just needs topping up, but a pressure loss that keeps coming back points to a leak somewhere in the system or a failed expansion vessel, and that needs finding properly.
A blocked condensate pipe is the classic winter fault. The pipe that carries acidic water out of the boiler freezes in a cold snap, the boiler senses the blockage and shuts down. It often happens to the same houses every year, usually where the pipe runs outside in an exposed spot, and it can be fixed permanently by re-routing or lagging it.
No hot water but working heating usually means a diverter valve. Heating on but radiators cold at the bottom points to sludge in the system rather than the boiler itself. Kettling, that rumbling noise from the boiler, is limescale on the heat exchanger, which matters in the harder water areas around Bristol.
Ignition and pilot light faults, faulty thermostats, seized pumps and stuck three port valves make up most of the rest. Julian carries the common Worcester parts, so a good number of jobs get finished on the first visit.
Worth knowing before you call: if the boiler has locked out and displayed a code, note it down. It does not tell the whole story, but it narrows the likely causes considerably and means Julian can arrive with the right parts more often than not.
Also check the pressure gauge before ringing. Below one bar and the boiler will refuse to fire regardless of what else is wrong, and that alone explains a fair share of calls. If it has dropped once, topping it up may be all that is needed. If it keeps dropping, that is a fault and it needs finding.
Repairs here are limited to Worcester Bosch, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. Accredited installer status means the fault codes, the component behaviour and the common failure points on that range are genuinely familiar, so diagnosis is quick and the right part is fitted first time rather than by elimination.
If your boiler is another make, Julian will say so on the phone rather than after a wasted visit. Servicing and gas safety work still cover every make, so a non-Worcester boiler that is working properly can be looked after here in the normal way.
There comes a point where putting money into an old boiler stops making sense, and Julian will tell you when you have reached it rather than quietly taking the repair work.
As a rough guide, if the boiler is under ten years old, parts are available and the repair is a few hundred pounds, fixing it is usually the right call. If it is fifteen years old, out of warranty, and the failed part is a heat exchanger or gas valve, the repair cost starts approaching a meaningful share of a new boiler that would come with a fresh 12-year guarantee.
Frequency matters too. One breakdown is bad luck. Three in two winters is a boiler telling you something. Older units are also far less efficient, so you carry the difference on every gas bill.
If replacement is the sensible option, Julian will quote for boiler installation or a boiler replacement with a clear fixed price, and there is no obligation to go ahead. Plenty of customers get the repair done and replace a year or two later on their own timing.
Fault codes, component layouts and common failure points vary considerably between brands. Knowing one range properly means the diagnosis is right first time far more often, and the common parts are carried on the van. If you have a different make, Julian says so on the phone rather than charging for a visit he cannot complete.
Fault codes indicate a symptom, not always a cause. A code naming a flow sensor may be a tired pump, a partly blocked heat exchanger or air in the system producing the same reading. Replacing the named part without confirming it is how people pay twice.
Recurring pressure loss means water is escaping or the expansion vessel has failed. Repeated winter lockouts usually mean a condensate pipe freezing, a routing problem rather than a boiler one.
Note any fault code showing, and check the pressure gauge. Below one bar and the boiler will refuse to fire regardless of what else is wrong, which explains a fair share of callouts on its own.
Repairs are Worcester Bosch only. Julian is a Worcester accredited installer and sticks to what he knows properly. Annual boiler servicing and gas safety checks cover all makes.
No. Julian works normal hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and weekend mornings, and does not offer out-of-hours or emergency callouts. He will always tell you honestly when he can get to you.
It depends entirely on the fault and the part. What does not change is that you get a price before any work begins, so there are no surprises at the end.
Often, yes. Julian carries the common Worcester parts. If a part has to be ordered in, you will be told there and then how long it is likely to take.
It needs looking at. Topping it up repeatedly treats the symptom. A recurring pressure drop means water is escaping somewhere, or the expansion vessel has failed, and both are worth finding early.
If the boiler is out of warranty and the repair quote is climbing, Julian will set out the replacement option alongside it so you can compare the two honestly rather than deciding blind.
We also offer boiler servicing, boiler replacement, central heating and gas engineer services. We cover Staple Hill, Downend, Kingswood and the surrounding areas.
Repairs cover Bristol and roughly ten miles around Staple Hill with no travel charge added. Call Julian on 07831 718509 with the make, model and any fault code showing, and he will tell you honestly whether it is a job he can take on before arranging a visit.
